Ever Forward provides individual counselling sessions that provide you with support, help you work through your problems and find solutions that work with your needs and style. The focus is always on discovering and increasing your strengths to find your own path to happier times.
When you are struggling, there are many ways that you can work to feel better: talking with friends and family; focusing on your eating, exercise and sleep; or just getting out and doing something that you enjoy.
But sometimes your problems seem so overwhelming that your usual fixes don't help. When you are feeling sad or stressed, gathering the energy to take action might feel impossible. It is at times like this that you might seek extra assistance.
- Listened to and heard
- Treated with evidence-based learning
- Invited to explore ways to change
- Introduced to a new inner confidence
- Treated with respect at all times
Ever Forward takes a strengths based approach. While we will certainly look at goal setting, we also work on identifying the strengths which make you uniquely YOU and apply these to your problems. You do have strengths and abilities that you can apply to your situation and experience improvement.
Counselling can be helpful if you are dealing with feelings of sadness, anxiousness or anger. These feelings are a natural part of the human experience — so we don't try to remove them. Instead we work towards an integrated emotional life, where negative emotions work alongside feelings of happiness, accomplishment and purposefulness.
Beginning a new counselling relationship can feel a little daunting, even for those who have spent time with a counsellor before. Research has shown that the most important factor in achieving a positive result from counselling is that you feel comfortable talking to your counsellor.
To make things a little easier (and less costly for you), I offer an introductory session which allows us to sit down together for 30 minutes so you can decide how comfortable you feel talking to me. We also use this time to decide what it is you want out of counselling, because your needs are important and I want to make sure you are achieving goals that are important to you.
Most clients come to me when they have a specific concern or difficulty they are dealing with, and will attend 4-8 sessions on a regular basis, either weekly or fortnightly, until they feel more confident that they can deal with their issue. Following that, many will book on a casual basis when they want to check in with their progress or just take the opportunity to vent about aspects of their life.
Individual counselling isn’t reserved for times when things get completely out of hand. Just as you’d schedule visits to the doctor to maintain your physical health, or send your car to the mechanic for a service, you can use counselling to create meaningful and effective choices in your life.
The benefits of individual counselling may lead to a shift in behaviour, leading to improved mental health and a renewed confidence to take on the challenges in your life.
Further benefits of individual counselling include:
Improved self-awareness: Counselling can lead to an increased awareness of thoughts, feelings and sensations. Finding new perspectives on deeply ingrained patterns of behaviour or thoughts can lead to exciting transformations for Melbourne residents.
Advanced coping mechanisms: Life will always present us with obstacles. Through one-on-one counselling you can learn healthy coping mechanisms that reduce the friction from life.
Increased confidence and decision-making skills: We all have the right to a happy and healthy life. Personal counselling may help develop confidence that allows you to live a life that makes you happy. When you learn to take control of your life, anything is possible.
Individual therapy isn’t just for those struggling. We all deserve to be in control of our mental health. If you’re struggling just to get by, let’s chat about helping you move Ever Forward.
